The Gift that Keeps on Giving

The fragrance of crisp, autumn leaves with a hint of fresh pine greeted me as I entered Timber Lake Camp in Shandaken, New York. There was a sense of nostalgia from thinking about the memories I made at the 2019 Riley’s Way Youth Leadership Retreat, where I was one of about a hundred student attendees from across the country. Three years later, I recently had the opportunity to come back and serve as a Team Mentor, acting as a guiding force to the high school leaders.

Bringing Awareness To The Digital Divide

Is technology a gift or a distraction? A privilege or a right? We as humans are constantly using technology whether it be to transport us from one place to another, communicate thousands of miles away, create medicine, or complete assignments to further our education. The average person uses their computer for about five to six hours daily. However, for students, computers/tablets/phones have become a necessity in classrooms, and for bringing these classrooms home. Commonly used applications include Google Classroom, Google Docs, search engines, Duolingo, and more. But what if you don’t have that access?

Mental Health & Athletics

As leaders, we love pouring kindness into people around us. It makes us happy and it positively impacts the world, but if we don’t also care for ourselves, it can get hard on our mental health. To me, Care to Connect: Build a Kinder Tomorrow is a reminder that we need to make time for ourselves and focus on our mental health by implementing self-care in order to have a significant impact on the world.
